How we do it

From edges to finish

01

The edges first

We trim the grass along the edges, or cut it right back so the concrete gets cleaned to the line. You tell us which.

02

Clear the debris

Loose leaves and grit get blasted off before the main clean starts. We carry three commercial-grade machines, at 3,500, 4,000 and 4,500 psi, and pick the one that suits your concrete.

03

The whirlybird

A rotating-disc surface cleaner, the “whirlybird”, does the flat surface. It keeps the clean even across the whole slab.

04

Chemical only if it’s needed

How deep the grime goes only shows after the first pass. If it’s gritty, oily or mouldy, we’ll add a degreaser, chemical or chlorine wash, and tell you before we do.

What it costs

Upfront about price

A driveway clean has a minimum charge of $200, then works out at about $4 per square metre. A degreaser, chemical or chlorine wash adds to that if the surface needs it.

A driveway takes about 1 hour on average. There’s no separate call-out fee. Travel is part of the quote.

Paths too

Paths and pathways get the same treatment as the driveway, so it makes sense to do them on the same visit. Ask for soft washing if you’d like a gentler clean.

Gold Coast conditions

Why driveways go dark

The Bureau of Meteorology’s Gold Coast Seaway records show September, the driest month, averaging around 42 mm, with far more in the summer months. Rainfall varies a lot through the year, and the Queensland Residential Tenancies Authority notes that mould grows in damp areas, with a higher risk in the tropics.

  • Black or green patches across the surface.
  • Tyre marks and oil drips.
  • Leaf stains under trees.
  • A grimy edge where the grass meets the concrete.

Before we arrive

Getting the driveway ready

Move cars off the driveway and the car space so the whole surface can be reached. Decide how you want the grass edges handled, trimmed or cut back. Point out any oil stains you know about, and send a photo and a rough size with your suburb so we can give you a price.

Wash water

Where the run-off goes

Queensland council guidance lists high pressure cleaning among the activities whose wastewater can harm waterways, and says allowing polluted wastewater into stormwater drains and roadside gutters is an offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1994. It advises sweeping up waste, not hosing it down, and using as little water as possible. Ask any driveway cleaner how they manage run-off.

After the clean

Keeping it clean

Dulux Avista says a sealer makes concrete easier to clean because dirt has a harder time soaking in. If you are thinking about that, see concrete sealing. Want the gutters and walls looked at while we are there? See gutter cleaning and house washing.
